There is a quite long tradition of golf in the Czech Republic. The first golf course was established in the spa town of Karlovy Vary in 1904. Shortly after that more courses and clubs were founded and this tradition continued even during World War II and then during the time of the communist regime, when golf was suppressed. Since the Velvet Revolution in 1989, general interest in golf has been rapidly growing. Many new golf courses have been established, the old ones have been renovated and modernized.
